Gambling is officially legal St. Kitts (officially Federation of Saint Christopher and Nevis, population of 52K, on two islands) since 1999, according to the Betting and Gaming Control Act*. UPDATE 2021: the Gaming Control Act 2021** has now replaced the Betting Control Act as the main piece of legislation regulating games of chance (online and offline). The framework for licensing, regulation, and taxation of the gambling industry were updated in this new act. This regulation called for the establishment of the Gaming Commission, which replaces the St. Christopher and Nevis Gaming Board, as the regulatory body responsible for issuing licenses and controlling gambling activities on the islands (more of this in the gambling licensing section below).
The country is a British Commonwealth nation, with the British Monarch as its head of state but UK gambling laws do not apply here.
The country only appears to have 2 casinos, which is a very low number in the region (most Caribbean countries have at least 5 casino hotels, usually more).
Online gambling is also legal since 1999. But unlike many other Caribbean island nations, it has never became a huge online gambling licensing hub. There are only 2 licensees (and the number has been shrinking actually, there were 17 licensees in the 2000s)***.
However, online gambling sites licensed in St. Kitts and Nevis are not allowed to accept wagers or registrations from local residents.
