Online casinos are officially illegal in Bangladesh.
The Bangladeshi gambling law is from 1867 and therefore it does not address online gambling in any capacity.
In fact, the wording of the Penal Code3 and the 1867 gambling act makes it unclear whether they even apply to digital gambling.

“Whoever is found in any such house, tent, room, space, or walled enclosure…”
In our interpretation such lines make it clear that they only apply to brick & mortar gaming venues.
However, according to Faijul Islam from Chittagong University Law Department2 this is not the case and the 1867 gambling act indeed applies to online casinos.
/Comment: This only their interpretation of the 1867 Public Gambling Act, it is unknown what is their stance on the Penal Code. It is possible that it can not be applied to online gambling violations, which would explain why the authorities do not prosecute Bangladeshi online players./
Regardless of this confusing legal situation, the online casino ban is absolutely not enforced and nobody was ever fined or prosecuted in Bangladesh for playing in a foreign digital casino (there are no domestic Bangladeshi online casinos, operating one domestically is illegal, that is certain).
UPDATE 2023: Anecdotal evidence online suggest that sometimes payments to and from offshore digital casino websites are blocked, if a player tries to use credit cards or wire transfer. For this reason it is strongly recommend to use any of the many alternative payment methods available (e.g.: bitcoin, Neteller, ECOpayz etc…, they are usually faster and have smaller transaction fees as it is).

The ban on casinos is the result of the teachings of Islam (91% of the population is Muslim).

/Comment: Despite this, some forms of gambling are legal in Bangladesh, the trick is that the authorities do not consider certain activities games of chance and that is why they are allowed. These exempt types of gambling are tolerated for cultural and historical reasons.

Bangladesh could benefit hugely from legalizing casinos (especially casino hotels). The bigger casino companies are known to invest heavily in the hospitality and tourism sector, which could increase the extremely low number of tourists the country receives.

Bangladesh bitcoin casinos
