Kuwait, officially the State of Kuwait is a country located in Western Asia. Situated on the northern edge of Eastern Arabia at the tip of the Persian Golf, the country shares borders with Iraq and Saud Arabia. Kuwait has an estimated population of 4,2 million citizens. The country’s capital and largest city is Kuwait City with approximately 2,3 million residents in the metropolitan area. Kuwait’s official language is Arabic while the official religion is Islam. Kuwait is a semi-democratic constitutional emirate with a high-income economy backed by the world’s sixth largest oil reserves. Interestingly, the oil reserves were only discovered in the late 1930s. Kuwait constantly ranks amongst the highest in the world in per capita income.
Kuwait remained independent throughout most of its history. The driving force behind the country’s economy is oil so the Great Depression in the late 1920s and the oil crisis in the 1980s caused major drawbacks. After the crises, Kuwait engaged in a war with Iraq known as the Gulf War which involved the United States as well in the early 1990s. After the conclusion of the war, there were extensive efforts to revitalize the economy and rebuild the national infrastructure. The tension between Iraq and Kuwait remained intact after the war as Kuwait became the springboard for the US invasion of Iraq in the early 2000s. The current constitution was established in 1962 and remains intact ever since. Kuwait has a civil law system modeled after the French system.
All forms of gambling are illegal in Kuwait due to the Islamic teachings. The Sharia law forbids gambling as it sees such activities addictive, evil, and a cause for people to forget their social responsibilities. So there aren’t any casinos in the country offering the popular games like roulette, poker, or blackjack to name a few. Kuwait is one of the few countries (where gambling is illegal) which prosecutes players too, not just the operators if caught. There were many cases of arrests involving illegal gambling in the last decade. For example, in 2014, the authorities busted one of the biggest illegal casinos in the country, arresting more than 30 players (including foreigners too).* The government blocks online gambling sites too.

Bitcoin gambling in Kuwait: illegal, players are prosecuted
Bitcoin is a digital currency often referred to as a “cryptocurrency” invented back in 2008. It quickly became popular worldwide as an alternative mean of payment. Bitcoin gambling appeared shortly after the introduction of the currency and continues to gain popularity as more and more online casinos started to specialize in it. Despite its popularity, Bitcoin is still a relatively new phenomenon so only just a handful of countries issued laws concerning it. Some countries see Bitcoin as an asset rather than a currency (like Norway or Lithuania for example).
