Its largest city and economic capital is Abidjan with around 4,4 million residents while Ivory Coast’s political capital is Yamoussoukro with a significantly lower population of approximately 281,000. The 2 dominant religions in the country are Islam and Christianity. Prior to French colonization, the territory was home of several states such as Gyaaman, the Kong Empire, and Baoulé. Ivory Coast became a French protectorate state in the mid-18th century. The country was later formed into a French colony during the European scramble for Africa in 1893. The country gained independence from France in 1963, led by Félix Houphouët-Boigny, who ruled the country until 1993. Since then, the country went through religion-based civil wars, the first from 2002-2007 and the most recent one in 2011.

Gambling is legal and regulated in Ivory Coast. However, despite gambling being legal, there is only one casino (the Hotel Ivoire Inter-Continental & Casino) operating currently in the country. This casino offers all the popular games like blackjack, poker, and roulette amongst others. Online gambling, on the other hand, is not yet regulated. Therefore, the only option for players from Ivory Coast is to visit an offshore online casino. Numerous foreign gambling websites accept players from Ivory Coast.
