Honduras, officially the Republic of Honduras is a country located in Central America. The country shares borders with Guatemala to the west, El Salvador to the southwest, Nicaragua to the southeast, the Gulf of Honduras to the north, and the Pacific Ocean and the Gulf of Fonseca to the south. Honduras’ population is around 7,3 million. The country’s capital and largest city is Tegucigalpa with approximately 1,3 million residents in its metropolitan area. Honduras’ official language is Spanish. Honduras’ economy centers around the export of coffee, sugar, and textiles. Although the country is rich in natural resources, it is one of the poorest countries in the world.
Honduras was home for several important cultures, most notably the Mayan before the Spanish rule. The territory was conquered by the Spanish Empire in the 16th century. The Spanish introduced Catholicism and the now predominant language of Spanish to the country. Honduras remained under Spanish rule for about 2 centuries until it gained independence in the early 19th century. However, almost immediately after declaring independence in 1821, the country became part of the First Mexican Empire. The empire was short lived as it was disbanded in 1823, though. After the empire’s fall, Honduras joined the Federal Republic of Central America. The country finally gained true independence in 1838. Today, Honduras operates as a presidential republic.
Gambling in Honduras is legal and regulated. Therefore, there are a couple casinos throughout the country (3 to be exact) where players can enjoy the most popular games like poker, roulette, and blackjack amongst others. Online gambling, on the other hand, is not yet regulated. This means that there isn’t a legal background for online gambling in the country at the moment. If players from Honduras want to play online then they “have” to visit an offshore online casino. Numerous foreign gambling sites accept players from Honduras.

Bitcoin gambling in Honduras
Bitcoin gambling in Honduras: not regulated
Bitcoin is a digital currency often referred to as a “cryptocurrency” invented in 2008. It quickly became popular worldwide as an alternative mean of payment. Bitcoin gambling appeared shortly after the introduction of the currency and continues to gain popularity as more and more online casinos started to specialize in it. However, Bitcoin is still a relatively new phenomenon so only just a handful of countries issued laws concerning it. Some countries consider Bitcoin as an asset rather than a currency (like Norway and Lithuania for example). Bitcoin trades (due to the currency’s digital nature) occur mostly via the internet which means that Bitcoin gambling is technically a part of the online gambling genre. Therefore, it is safe to assume that Bitcoin gambling is not regulated in Honduras like many other forms of online gambling. However, there aren’t any specific laws in Honduras concerning Bitcoin gambling or Bitcoin in general at the moment.
