The Bahamas (officially The Commonwealth of the Bahamas) – is a country consisting of over 700 islands of various sizes, situated in the Atlantic Ocean, not far off the shores of the United States. The two defining pieces of gambling legislation are the 2008 Lotteries and Gambling Act* and the 2014 Gaming Bill**.
Online gambling is mostly illegal in the Bahamas and is very restricted, but something similar to online casinos exist on the islands. For a long time, up until 2014, many illegal “web shops” were in operation, locals could use their terminals to access online casino like webpages, and lottery “tickets” were sold (just the numbers, they promised to pay if you won, and bought the lottery tickets, US Powerball mostly, in person, for you, I would never trust something like that btw., has shady written all over it, this was called “the numbers game” and many of these shops were called “numbers shops” as a result). In 2013, a referendum was held with the aim of legalising and regulating such web shops, as well as establishing a national lottery, but both proposals were rejected.*** Despite this, in 2014 the new Gaming Act was signed into to law, with a much limited scope, and in much more restricted form than originally planned, but it did legalize restricted forms of online gambling and the webshops (you can see below in the licensing section), and since then, all the illegally operating web shops were required to be licensed. Nowadays, the bigger establishments work very similarly to the electronic casinos of Europe, with terminals (or on your mobile device if they have the required license) you can access their online casino games, even sports betting, the ever popular numbers game in the physical locations, but only in the physical locations, not from your home. Additionally, the big casino resorts have online gambling within their casinos spaces as well, as an addition to their gambling offerings. That’s all the forms of online gambling that are currently legal, as you can see, it’s not entirely illegal, it’s uniquely Bahamanian version (haven’t encountered something similar anywhere else in the world).
The new measures taken to legalize the shops were actually so effective that by 2019 there were only one illegally operating web shop chain remaining.

The Bahamas gambling tax system has both progressive and fixed elements:

- If revenue in a year exceeds $10 million but is less than $16 million – 2.5 million + 20% on everything above $10 million
- If revenue in a year exceeds $16 million but is less than $20 million – 3.7 million + 10% on everything above $16 million
- If revenue in a year exceeds $20 million – 4.1 million + 5% on everything above $20 million
Unlike in most other countries the tax system rewards people who make more money. This is a goo idea, usually the smaller operators are more problematic and contribute more to problem gambling that the bigger ones, not to mention that the big casino resorts contribute to the Bahamian economy in many other ways as well.
Gaming houses pay 12%.
