In 2013, a bill was proposed to make online casino gambling and online casinos legal, but only for tourists. The law in it’s original form was rejected in 2013**, and what was passed into law in 2014 was a significantly morel limited, and very unusual online gambling legislation, unique to the Commonwealth of the Bahamas (there is nothing quite like this in the entire world).
Although online casinos are not (yet) allowed, there are in fact a few tolerated ways locals and tourists alike can participate in online casino gambling. For locals: there are several “web shops”, also called “internet cafes”, “kiosks”, “lotto houses”, “number shops” – where players congregate to play on a online casino like platform (e.g. the biggest such company is probably Jarol Investments Limited who has 80 such locations, all licensed and legally operating). They operate pretty much like an online casino, online lottery and also online sportsbook, but the catch is they can only be accessed after registration, from these psychical premises only. Therefore, they are not online casinos, in the traditional sense (those are illegal). Apart from these establishments, the big casino resorts of Baha Mar and Atlantis all have their in-house online casinos, which can only be accessed by guests and only from within the confines of their respective physical casino establishments.
Despite this unique take on online gambling regulation, individual players who play in foreign regular online casinos are not prosecuted, such sites are not blocked, but technically it’s illegal.

Unlike online casino gambling, land-based casinos are legal in the Bahamas. The archipelago is, in fact, most famous for its casino resorts (and beautiful pink-white sand beaches, and their role in the freeing of the slaves in the US), which account for a significant percentage of the country’s GDP (tourism accounts for 40% of GDP). Casinos have been legal in the Bahamas since the 1960 (the defining legislation is the 2008 Lotteries and Gambling Act* when it comes to brick&mortar gambling), though there had been casino gambling establishments on the islands before that as well, such as the Bahamian Club in Nassau, and they were largely unregulated for a long time.
Casino operators must apply for a licence in order to be able to offer their services legally on the islands. Licences are issued by the Gambling Board of the Bahamas.
Casinos in the Bahamas are rather strictly regulated. The maximum amount a single player may win or lose in a single session is set by the gambling law. The minimum age for playing in a casino is set at 18. The law also specifies, that residents of the Bahamas (and even their spouses) are not allowed to participate in casino gambling (additionally the resorts don’t allow employees, and people residing in the country on work permits to play as well).
At the moment there are 5 3 casinos in the Bahamas (UPDATE only 3, 2 of them closed a few years ago) (apart from the casinos there are 100+ smaller gambling establishments for the locals, these are not real casinos), spread throughout multiple islands of the archipelago. Many of the casinos (but not all) are part of larger resort complexes, which offer multiple forms of entertainment. Baha Mar is the biggest casino of the Bahamas currently, it’s a huge casino, even by international standards. Even though the casinos looks very good, and it’s huge their website provides only basic information and a lot of important information is missing from it.
Games: There are 1140 gaming machines, which includes: video slots, video poker, electronic roulette and blackjack, mechanical slots (various different brands, mostly 2010+ slots, lot of really new slots, which are only 1-3 years old, no really old slots, all high quality, no second hand machines, no budget manufacturers here, top brands only, really good selection). And they have 119 tables (different types of blackjack, baccarat, craps, and roulette and high-limit tables, sadly there is no info on the actual different types available, and the actual amount of each different type).
There is a sports betting section as well with sports betting terminals, huge HD monitors with live sports, and live betting stats (Live InPlay wagering), and an online sports book accessible on guests’s mobile devices.
There is no poker section in Baha Mar casino.
UPDATE COVID-19: No longer closed, reopened in 2020 December 17. The Government of The Bahamas requires visitors, returning citizens and residents to take a RT-PCR (swab) test no more than five days prior to their departure date to The Bahamas. Travelers must also obtain a Bahamas Health Travel Visa prior to their departure.

Bimini casino located in the unbelievably beautiful secluded island of Bimini. You can only get to this island paradise by sea or air. The island is a self-contained little community with a 10,000 square-foot casino.
Games: The Bimini casino has 160 slots (many of the slots are older, pre-2010, there are high limits slots).
