Haiti, officially the Republic of Haiti is a country in the western hemisphere and is located on the island of Hispaniola, in the Greater Antilles archipelago of the Caribbean. It shares the island with the Dominican Republic. Haiti is the 3rd most populous country in the Caribbean with an estimated population of 10,6 million. The nation’s capital and largest city is Port-au-Prince with approximately 2,6 million residents in its metropolitan area. Haiti’s official languages are French and Haitian Creole. Haiti is a member of numerous international organizations like the Latin Union, and the Organization of American States amongst others. Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the world with less than a $1000 GDP per capita. The country constantly ranks amongst the lowest in the Human Development Index too.
The island was originally inhabited by the Taínos. The Europeans first visited the island in 1492 during the first voyage of Christopher Columbus. The territory was named Hispaniola and claimed by Spain, which ruled the island until the 17th century. The French took control of the western part of the island in the mid 17th century, naming their territory Saint-Domingue. During this time, the island was used to operate sugarcane plantations where the workers were mostly slaves brought from Africa. This led to the Haitian Revolution in the late 18th century resulting in Haiti’s independence in 1804.
Land-based gambling is legal in Haiti. However, gambling is not regulated on a national level. Currently, there are only 2 casinos operating in the country. These casinos offer the most popular games like roulette, blackjack, and poker amongst others, though. Online gambling is not regulated as of now in Haiti, which means that if Haitian players want to play online they need to visit an offshore online casino. Numerous offshore online casinos accept players from Haiti.

Bitcoin gambling in Haiti
Bitcoin gambling in Haiti: not regulated
Bitcoin is a digital currency often referred to as a “cryptocurrency” invented in 2008 by an unknown person under the moniker of Satoshi Nakamoto. It quickly gained a worldwide popularity as an alternative mean of payment. Bitcoin gambling appeared shortly after the introduction of the currency and continues to gain popularity as more and more online casinos started to specialize in it. However, Bitcoin is still a relatively new phenomenon so only just a handful of countries issued laws concerning it. Some countries see Bitcoin as an asset rather than a currency (like Norway or Lithuania for example). Bitcoin trades mostly occur via the internet so Bitcoin gambling technically counts as a form of online gambling. As of now, there aren’t any specific laws in Haiti concerning Bitcoin gambling or Bitcoin in general.
