Guam Casino and Gambling Guide

Guam (formally the Territory of Guam)  is an unincorporated and organized territory of the United States. It is located in the northwestern Pacific Ocean and it is one of the 5 American territories with an established civilian government. Guam is the largest and southernmost of the Mariana Islands and the largest island in Micronesia. Guam’s capital city is Hagåtña while its largest city is Dededo with an estimated population of 45,000 residents. Guamanian citizens are US citizens too by birth.

Before the European explorers arrived, Guam was inhabited by the Chamorros, the island’s indigenous people. The Portuguese were the first to visit the island from Europe in the mid-16th century. However, Guam was colonized in the 17th century by Spain. However, due to the Spanish-American war, the island came under the rule of the United States in 1898. The island remained under US rule until World War II, when the Japanese captured the territory. The US regained control of the island in 1944, though. Since then, Guam is part of the United States. Tourism is the driving force behind its economy today along with local businesses and Department of Defense installations. Guam is amongst the seventeen Non-Self-Governing Territories of the United Nations.

Gambling is illegal in Guam due to the Criminal and Correctional Code from 1977. However, some forms of gambling are allowed to conduct like cockfights or social gambling (gambling that takes place on a private premise). Land-based casino gambling is completely illegal, though, so there aren’t any establishments offering the popular casino games like roulette, poker, blackjack, or slot machines to name a few.* Illegal gambling operators can face jail time, a hefty fine, or both if caught. Online gambling, on the other hand, is not yet regulated or banned. Therefore, players from Guam can enjoy their favorite games at offshore online casinos if those casinos accept them, of course.

Bitcoin gambling in Guam: not regulated

Bitcoin is a digital currency often referred to as a “cryptocurrency” invented by a mysterious person behind the name of Satoshi Nakamoto. Bitcoin gained a worldwide popularity the following years as an alternative mean of payment. Bitcoin gambling appeared shortly after the introduction of the currency and continues to grow in popularity as more and more online casinos started to specialize in it. However, Bitcoin is still a relatively new phenomenon so only just a handful of countries issued laws concerning it. Some countries consider Bitcoin as an asset rather than a currency (like Lithuania or Norway for example).
