Cicada 3301

Welcome to SimonTheSorcerer’s Cicada 3301 resource page! The biggest Cicada 3301 blog online.

The wikia Cicada 3301 page is not consistent and the quality of the information is not always what you expect: outdated, poorly structured and poorly presented,(and of course, a lot of trolls).

I wanted to create something a bit more stable and consistent.

If you want a straight-to-the-point, informative collection of reliable Cicada 3301 information you found it. You can find all the revealed secrets of Cicada 3301 right here.
Let’s start.
This page intends to be the definitive guide to Cicada 3301 from SimonTheSorcerer (that’s me) a Cicada hunter just like you (if you are not a Cicada hunter just a curious visitor you are still welcome;) ).

I aim to collect and organize all – reliable! – information online about Cicada 3301 so you don’t have to go trough all the wiki pages (there are literally hundreds of pages on the Wiki) and you don’t have to skim trough hundreds of articles written by mainstream media (essentially news portals copying each other adding nothing new to the conversation a.k.a “business as usual” for mainstream media).

This webpage will be constantly updated, check back later for more.

Let’s start our fantastic journey into the world of the mysterious Cicada 3301.

Cicada 3301 mystery:

What is Cicada 3301

Here is what is known about Cicada 3301:

On three documented occasions the mysterious organization identifying itself as “Cicada 3301″ posted a set of complex puzzles (puzzles used became harder and harder each recruitment).
Their intention is to recruit intelligent individuals.

Based on the tests and required skills they are looking for individuals with:

  • strong general education
  • broad interests
  • strong versatile IT skills
  • well-versed in cryptography, stenography
  • analytic thinking
  • mathematical  aptitude
  • ability to work in teams
  • perseverance

If you think it sounds a lot like a job ad for an IT professional you are not mistaken. It seems like they are indeed looking for IT professionals but as what end and for what purpose is unclear.
This is the “official” /it was used by them/ Cicada 3301 logo:

Cicada_3301

They have a Twitter account : Cicada 3301 Twitter (yes it’s not a joke :) they indeed have a Twitter account, they used it during the latest “swarm” [recruitment process] in 2014).

They are a global organization. It was revealed during the swarm of 2013, when posters appeared on the following locations simultaneously:

  • Annapolis, Maryland, US
  • Chino, California, US
  • Columbus, Georgia, US
  • Dallas, Texas, US
  • Erskineville, Australia
  • Fayetteville, Arkansas, US
  • Granada, Spain
  • Greenville, Texas, US
  • Haleiwa, Hawaii, US
  • Little Rock, Arkansas, US
  • Los Angeles, California, US
  • Miami, Florida, US
  • Moscow, Russia
  • New Orleans, Louisiana, US
  • Okinawa, Japan
  • Paris, France
  • Portland, Oregon, US
  • Seattle, Washington, US
  • Seoul, South Korea
  • Warsaw, Po

It’s impossible – with our current means of transportation – for just one person to travel to each of these locations in one day and to put up Cicada 3301 posters with the QR code.

To add to the air of mystery people who claimed to have made it to the final round disappeared completely from the face of the earth and nobody ever heard of them again.

And that’s it.

This all we know for sure about Cicada 3301, everything else is speculation. If you want to read outrageous speculative stories about Cicada 3301 just read the forums or the Wikia page, there is plenty of that there.
I only collect reliable information here.

Cicada 3301 structure, organization

Not much is known about the organizational structure of Cicada 3301.

All we know for certain is that they recruit online and seem to organize and coordinate everything online.
They seem to put a great emphasis on secrecy and are very selective about whom they are recruiting.  The fact that they are recruiting annually means that the organization is growing (or they are very bad at retaining members, or a combination of both).

All puzzles are in English and therefore it is assumed they communicate in English internally as well. They seem to be most active in the US (based on the number of posters placed, most were placed in the US). Based on these (English language, US activity) it is assumed, that Cicada 3301 originated from the US. Altough this is not confirmed.

No reliable information surfaced about the internal organizational structure of Cicada 3301. If some reliable info is leaked I will update this section.

During the 2013 Cicada hunt a set of individualized late-stage quizzes and series of tests were leaked -as the hunt progressed the tests became individualized at the end -.

I have collected all the multiple choice questions and answers and  created this truly unique Cicada quiz.

To remain true to the spirit of Cicada 3301 everyone can answer them collectively and will see the polled results.
/For Cicada 3301: Might be interesting to see the polled results of people collectively answering the questions./

Take the test and find out whether you would be recruited by the mysterious cicada 3301!
Only the multiple choice questions were included. In the original test there were more questions. Use the arrows to navigate.

/If for some reason the arrows are not displayed, try refreshing the browser./

There is no truth? Its a paradox, for there to be no truth, and to say that it is true. Then its a lie. For it to be false… Then what is the truth?

    • Confusion, doubt, questioning is the first step towards enlightenment,. You are a nymph slowly becoming an instar , my friend.

Only when you think you know nothing and doubt everything will you arrive at the next stage.

    • My thoughts on truth are simple, truth is what you make it. Much like right or wrong if you choose to believe in it then it is truth. It is also a “truth” however that you are undoubtedly bound by certain laws universally applicable and even denying them will not deny their impact upon your being. So you begin with a question and only you can find the answer. What is the truth?…to you?

I have just recently found out about Cicada, kinda sad I know. I want to know, Is it too late to join the quest? If not, I have a few questions that I want to ask, and you seem like someone who can give me some answers, but not here. I have left my email in the reply section. I want to join the quest and apply whatever skills I have to this journey.

    • Maybe next year. But if you go trough 300 Wikia pages, develop cryptography skills you might still catch-up this year.

Although it seems to be dying down.
Probably too late for you this year.

Probably there will be something next year. 2015 Jan. 4-5 (depending on your location).

The truth is all of the answers are “correct” philosophically speaking

  7. First I love your blog on this subject. A tip of my hat to you good sir!

I just think the cicada 3301 is incredibly interesting. What they’re all about and what exactly they’re doing do not interest me as much as seemingly their philosophy behind it all…

It actually works quite well with a sci-fi story I’m working on about the mystery of “dark matter” & “dark energy” … In my story dark matter & energy are found out to be all the matter and energy from all the other parallel dimensions or universes. This was done by ingesting the correct psychedelic chemicals, finding a correlating “mystery” item and then standing in the correct spot on Earth.

By doing this the person is then able to not only perceive these other dimensions but allows for interactions between the 2 dimensions and even bring matter or energies back to our reality on our Earth. Making literally anything from magic & dragons or anything else anyone can think of quite possible. This would explain many of mankinds superstitions and myths…

All anyone needs is the right chemical combination, the one specific “mystery” item correlating with a specific dimension or universe and then standing in the proper location on Earth. It’s all like a puzzle in plain sight but still hidden from those unwilling to alter their minds/perceptions…

I’ve only just begun writing the story but I have an all new inspiration and technological ideas to work into the story now after delving into this Cicada 3301 thing.

Anyways, I thought that was kinda cool. Good job on all your research tho! ;)

As if the world wasn’t compartmentalized enough.

The vast amount of separatism that is happening in different ways across the globe is literally driving the human race apart. Everyone wants to either create or be part of their own little team, happy and separate from those that disagree with them. Humans will never even approach any form of unified society that will guarantee our own survival indefinitely, if we continue on this disarray of paths.

If Cicada 3301 has a purpose in the real world, shouldn’t they be looking for a broader spectrum of intelligent folks? Cryptology, IT expertise, and classic literature are only a small part of the skillsets that are needed for an organization to bring about some change in the real world. What about engineering skills, advanced medicine technology, military connections, financial connections, government connections? Hell, even connections in the religious community, All these factors are going to affect their future. There are very big fish in our pond that don’t like secret groups of intelligent folks, and have the power to stop them, slowly, but surely. They should probably work on becoming untouchable while being out in the open, just like establishment is. Only then can they harness the power of the proletariat. I’m most likely rambling on to no end here, but I feel like they’re shooting themselves in the foot, if they actually have some purpose.

Look “Cicada 3301″ up on google maps, then search “free speech movement” with the name of the place it brings you to on google and go to the “Free Speech Movement” wikipedia page

  10. Great work on this article. I did not enjoy looking through the wiki and was quite irritated, but was excited when I stumbled upon this. Very helpful.
I am very young and only have some skills with the computer, I have no idea what next year’s puzzle will bring.. I hope sometime in the future I can at least help to solve it.
I heard that if it is an entire community working together to solve the puzzles, they will not recruit anyone. They only take individuals. Is this correct?

And as for the fact that the people who solve the puzzles disappear off the face of the Earth.. I really hope it’s not just some crime that makes hard puzzles and kills anyone who solves it, after gaining their trust. I think this is mostly my imagination though.

Either way, I was intrigued by this. I hope to increase my skill set so I can understand the puzzles better.
